FROM STUBBORNNESS TO STUBBORNLESS

Habits are very hard to change. When people are already used to a certain way of life, they resist adapting to changing situations. In the current state of things, adapting is not a choice. It is our priority to take all prescribed measures to ensure our safety and the safety of others. The human mind has been described in so many different ways in scriptures and by psychologists. It is agreed that it is very difficult to get it under control.

“Man tohi kis viddhi samujhaoun”

Oh mind, what can I do to make you understand? Satguru Kabir Saheb wants us to reflect : what is holding us? Our true nature is ‘light’; being stubborn in wanting this and that, pushing against the natural flow of our life will not enlighten us. It has been seen that whenever man is struck by a disaster, he is shaken for a while. For a little while he reflects and ‘resolves’ to take corrective actions, to change his outlook. Then after some time, he falls back into the same old habits. Until he gets another shock.

“Sonaa ho toh sohaagaa mangaaoun, bank naal ras laaoun”

Are you as hard as gold? If gold it is that you are made of, yes, I can melt you with the fire of knowledge. The Guru is here to shape you in the way you should be. So that you can be channelled through to your ultimate destination. If you are not ready to submit yourself to the Guru and take in the knowledge, what can the Guru do? Going through academia, we are processed in a scripted way. And we become an archetype...which the world wants us to become. This may help us earn money, build a house, build a family, have stocks, bungalows, cars, yacht… Then what? We will still leave everything behind and go.

“Ghoraa hoye toh lagaam lagaaoun, haathi hoye toh zanzeer lagaaoun”

I can control the horse; I can even tie your feet and control you if you are an elephant. But you are more stubborn. How can I make you understand? The danger with a corrupt mind is not only that it will destroy the person, but it will also contaminate others pulling them towards destruction. The fast spreading of the coronavirus is a perfect example of how corrupt minds can be infectious. If people act intelligently and use their minds sensibly, we would not have seen such a huge number of infected people.

“Giaan chaahiye giaan sikhaaoun, satya ki raah bataaoun, amarpur pahounchaaoun”

Satguru Kabir Saheb offers to teach us...it is up to us to submit to his teachings. The choice is ours. If we want to go to the Eternal Abode, we have to accept the teachings of Satguru, comply with them, live our life spiritually, and leave the rest to Him. Ignorance and misuse of knowledge are the reasons why mankind is suffering and will continue to suffer. Let us do our part : let’s become ambassadors of truth and love.
